The History of Cain's Grocery stores.
Cain’s Grocery stores serve you with the experience of four generations in the grocery business. Tommy Cain, owner of today’s stores, is joined by his son, Jason, in offering the best in customer service, produce, meats and a great overall shopping experience.
Tommy’s uncles started in the grocery business in the 1930s. Tommy’s dad, Leon, joined them and then went on to manage and own several stores. Tommy started in the business in 1965. He opened Cain’s Grocery in Loxley in October of 1989. In May 2001, he bought B&H Food store in Mobile and renamed it Cain’s B&H - Tommy’s father had started the store as an IGA in the 1960s and later sold it to B&H, so it is now back in the family. In April 2007, Tommy opened the largest grocery store in Foley, Cain’s Piggly Wiggly.
Cain’s grocery stores are one of the few remaining locally owned grocery stores in Baldwin and Mobile counties. Tommy, Jason, and their entire crew pride themselves at providing the best to you. They are so proud of their service and products that they have a “no questions asked” return policy.
“Cain’s customers are satisfied due to the great employees we have,” Tommy commented. Grady Black served as a butcher for 60 years before retiring a few months ago. Many of our Loxley employees have more than 20 years’ service with us, including Jan Shipp, Tim Hobbs and Cindy Gisczinski.
"Dwight Griffin is our store director in Foley. I’ve known him since the 1960s. Bob Richardson at our Mobile store has been store director for a dozen years and I’ve known him for more than 20 years.”
“Having folks like these just adds to our mission of customer service and friendliness, “Tommy Cain
When four generations of your family have shared the same love of serving their communities and providing the best groceries, produce and meat the result is unsurpassed customer service. Tommy and Jason Cain are proud that their stores still provide butcher services seven days a week. Our purpose for being is “To Help the Customer” explained Tommy. Cain’s has a “no questions asked” return policy to ensure customer satisfaction.
Cain’s stores offer services you may not find in larger chain stores. Cain’s personnel will do their very best to find that special order item you can’t find anywhere else. The delis at Loxley and Foley specialize in smoked pork butts, ribs, beef briskets, smoked and rotisserie chickens and they make a great sandwich. Be sure to stop by and check it out. Western Union services also are available.
Cain’s grocery stores care about the communities they serve with their Good Neighbor Policy. Cain’s supports four local schools – Loxley Elementary, Foley Elementary, Swift Elementary and Rosinton Elementary. Cain’s also supports school and community sports.
Every month, Cain’s supports Mary’s Shelter, Catholic Charities, the Hispanic Clinic in Foley and Catholic Radio. “We also support many other worthy causes when they ask us for our help,” Tommy said.
